Consultation launched on how to reduce waste from plastic

A new green paper has been launched by the European Commission aimed at finding policy options to tackle the problem of plastic waste. The Commission has confirmed that nothing will be proposed before 2014, when EU waste legislation is due to be revised. The consultation takes the form of a questionnaire with 26 questions that contain nearly identical policy options to the consultation conducted in 2008. Manufacturers have already contested a ban on plastic bags, arguing that packaging that satisfies the packaging waste directive, such as those which can be reused or recycled, cannot be prohibited but pricing measures to reduce quantity of plastic bags in circulation is a possibility. The consultation is open to all interested stakeholders and the deadline for answers to be submitted Is 7th June 2013. READ MORE
