MEPs warn against environmental deregulation
Ahead of the publication of the European Commission’s 2016 work programme, MEPs have told the European Commission that better regulation does not mean deregulation in its new work programme. ENEP has been closely involved through its TTF in responding to the REFIT on the nature directives which is considering how to simplify regulation and cut administrative costs. Now the MEPs have said that this must not be used as an excuse for lowering social and environmental standards. Meanwhile, as part of the fitness check of the EU Nature Directives, the European Commission will host a high-level conference on 20 November 2015 in Brussels, at which representatives from ENEP will be present, to discuss with Member States and other stakeholders the preliminary conclusions emerging from the assessment of evidence and information gathered. The European Commission is expected to adopt its final 2016 work programme on Wednesday 28th October.
