Generating electricity using high altitude kits makes a mark on Green Week 2013

At this year’s ENEP/EFCA stand, we couldn’t help but notice the large suspended kite 2 stands down from us. ENEP.  ENEP stand representatives had the opportunity to learn more about the technology that has been the focus for a EU funded research and development project.  Presenting the technology, Dr. Marcello Corongui from Sequoia Automation based in Turin, Italy explained the technical features of the computer controlled kite that can operate from either a land or sea base between altitudes from 200 to 1000 metres transferring up to 30 tonnes per square metre through polymer kite cords into the turbines located in the base. With investment from Saudi Arabia the project has filed scores of patents so far and has reached its industrial production prototype phase. Commission Potočnik took a keen interest in the project on his walk about the Green Week Expo on Thursday June 6th.  Kite Gen Research S.r.l. are now looking for additional demonstration sites in the Atlantic and Mediterranean areas  and are even ready to test a cruise liner mounted version.
